Role: Optical Network Development Engineer
Day Rate: €500-€600
Location: Dublin
Type: Contract
Duration: 6 months

GemPool is collaborating with a leading client to find an Optical Network Development Engineer. This individual should be highly autonomous, with exceptional communication, project management, and time management skills. The role requires a proven ability to troubleshoot complex network issues and deliver innovative solutions. A passion for working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment is essential.

Role and Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and deploy global Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks.
  • Scale current DWDM designs to meet growing customer demands.
  • Develop and refine processes to ensure efficient DWDM network operation and expansion.
  • Collaborate with other Networking teams to introduce and implement new designs.
  • Assess and integrate alternative DWDM equipment as necessary.
  • Ensure network compliance with established standards.
  • Review and apply necessary modifications to the DWDM network.
  • Lead operational excellence initiatives to enhance network quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and develop innovative solutions for complex network challenges.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or relevant experience.
  • 6+ years of experience in the deployment and maintenance of large DWDM networks and optical networking technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience in optical planning, modeling tools, and optical troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of experience in Optical Network Operations, deployment, or design.
  • 3+ years of experience troubleshooting DWDM/Optical systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of optical technologies and major DWDM platforms.
  • Strong foundation in IP networking fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with SNMP, TL1, or XML-based management protocols.
  • Proven experience with optical planning and modeling tools.
  • Strong network analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience in the operational support of large DWDM networks.
  • Competence in Unix and scripting/programming languages is desirable.
  • Understanding of Layer 2 (L2) switching and Layer 3 (L3) routing is a plus.
